On Friday, June 26th, our office volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, which is essentially run by community volunteers. We signed up to host a mealtime service for the families who were staying at the house while their children were being treated at a local hospital. Our team of five prepared dinner for about 40 people. We picked something we were sure everyone would enjoy: tacos! We offered both chicken and ground beef with a “taco bar” that included several different topping choices. We also provided a salad bar as well. Each family made sure to personally thank us for their meal, which was very humbling and gratifying all at the same time.
After we completed cooking and serving dinner to some truly great people, we were able to take a quick tour. The Charlotte Ronald McDonald House offers 28 rooms that serve as a “home” for immediate family members. Everything about the house was warm and inviting. The house provides all the essentials a family needs, and even keeps an extra room or two open for emergency situations. Each room offers its own private bathroom, and a gift bag of toys sits on each bed for every child who arrives. A journal is placed in every room for families to share their stories with RMHOC. The journal is filled with both emotional thank you notes and in-depth stories of individual journeys from diagnosis to recovery. Dinner is served nightly, and is usually sponsored by a family or business in the area, like Marcellino & Tyson, PLLC.
Each year, Marcellino & Tyson puts great thought into selecting two charities to donate money and volunteer services. When Marcellino & Tyson, PLLC chose the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte in January, we were aware of the organization’s terrific purpose. After personally visiting the house and meeting the families, we cannot say enough about this fantastic charity and the amazing work these individuals perform for families in need. Marcellino & Tyson is thrilled at the possibility of volunteering with the house again in the near future.
