Preparation Is What Makes Mediation Work

Mediation offers a real opportunity to resolve a divorce without a courtroom battle, but only when both parties come prepared to meaningfully negotiate.

Know What's on the Table

Depending on your family's situation, mediation may need to address property division, alimony, child custody, child support, and other financial or parenting concerns all at once. Understanding how these issues connect to one another before you sit down puts you in a better position to protect your interests.

Gather Documentation and Identify Priorities

Knowing your full financial picture, gathering relevant records, and deciding in advance which issues are firm and which have room to move gives you a real advantage. Walking in without this groundwork often means reacting in the moment rather than negotiating from a position of clarity.

A key part of our role before mediation is to make sure you understand exactly what you're negotiating and what you're willing to accept, so the decisions you make at the table are ones you can stand behind afterward.
